Distance Running Program

Program Design

Our distance running program is specifically designed to provide every distance runner the opportunity to maximize their distance running performance, while reducing their chance of injury.  We achieve this by using a mix of the following training methods.

Total Body Strength Training

Distance running can be a punishing sport, so it is essential to build muscular strength and endurance throughout the entire body through resistance training.  Our goal is to design programs that not only lead to improved running performance, but also reduce the likelihood of running- related injuries.

Personalized Coaching

PPT truly cares about helping a runner perform better; therefore, we design training programs that are specific to the needs of the individual - not the group.  We work with the runner to help them improve performance, train injury-free, and achieve their goals.  Individual and group coaching is available.

Flexibility

Optimal distance running performance and being able to stay injury-free is extremely dependent on flexibility.  We will identify and correct these imbalances, thereby creating a more efficient running stride.

Runner Assessment/Evaluation

We use the Functional Movement Screen to determine the weak link in a runner’s movement.  Once the dysfunction and inefficient movement patterns are identified, we apply the appropriate corrections to avoid the injuries that so often result.

Balance/Stabilization

This is the foundation to superior running mechanics.  Focus in this area will be on maintaining correct body posture and coordination to avoid inefficient movement.

Core Strength Training

The musculature that surrounds your spine and trunk needs to be strong, controlled, and well-balanced.  Our core strength training will identify and correct muscular imbalances leading to improved running mechanics and economy.

Nutritional Counseling

What a runner consumes before, during, and after a race/training run, can play an enormous role in its outcome.  We will take a closer look at proper intake recommendations for food and fluid during these crucial times.
