Soccer-Specific Training

Program

Program Design

We have designed our Soccer Training Program to improve the on-field performance of individual players and entire teams, while reducing the risk of soccer-related injury.

Player Profile

We spend the time to take each player through the Functional Movement Screen which is instrumental in the identification of soccer-specific weakness and imbalances.  Early detection of such weakness and imbalances determine the direction we take in the development of each player’s conditioning program.

Aerobic Conditioning

The game of soccer requires a high level of endurance, so a strong foundation of aerobic endurance must be established to prevent the negative effects of fatigue.  In addition, it allows the athlete to perform at a higher intensity for a longer duration by improving the ability to recover more quickly between high-intensity bouts.

Interval Training

Our soccer-specific interval training subjects the body to short, but regular repeated periods of work stress, interspersed with adequate periods of relief.  As a result, the players can build a conditioning level of intensity and duration that will directly connect to the on-field demands.

Testing/Evaluation

In order to ensure all athletes are getting the most out of our training program, we regularly test the following soccer-specific components: aerobic capacity, aerobic power, speed, speed endurance, strength, power, and agility.  This testing is essential in the identification of an athlete’s individual strengths and weaknesses, as well as determining the overall effectiveness and direction of the training program.  Evaluation results are also excellent tools in providing the coach valuable information for the development of optimal training sessions.

SAQ Training

The goal of our speed, agility, and quickness training is to develop proper form and movement mechanics.  We accomplish this by eliminating incorrect or suboptimal movement patterns and improving motor skills used for running, jumping, changing direction, and reaction to stimulus.

Functional Strength Training

Soccer is a physical game; therefore, it is important to possess adequate levels of upper and lower body strength.  A strong focus is placed on improving soccer-specific muscle power related to acceleration, deceleration, explosive jumping, and safe and efficient landing.  We also work to develop core-hip strength to combat weakness in the lateral hip complex and prevent knee injuries.
