Volleyball-Specific Training Program

Program Design

We have designed our Volleyball Training Program to provide each athlete with a solid multifaceted training foundation so they can reach their full potential while remaining injury free.

Assessment/Evaluation

We take each athlete through the Functional Movement Screen that aids in the identification of volleyball-specific weaknesses/imbalances and inefficient movement patterns.  This early detection helps to avoid injury and improve performance.

Shoulder Strengthening & Stabilization

Over-use shoulder injuries are common in volleyball.  We will implement a balanced shoulder strengthening and stabilization program aimed at the prevention of these injuries.

Strength & Explosive Power Training

Superior volleyball performance is highly dependent upon jumping ability.  After developing adequate lower body strength, we design a plyometric program that can be easily followed with proper progressions. This program can be put into place now and progress in the future when the athlete is ready.

Agility & Quickness Training

Volleyball is a sport of various movement patterns requiring players to jump and dive all over the court.  Our agility and quickness training is focused on improving the vertical and lateral aspects of an athlete’s game through movement drills modeled after movement patterns that take place on the court.

Dynamic Warm-Up

We will implement a volleyball-specific dynamic warm-up routine that can be performed at the beginning of each practice and match.  This 10-15 minute routine would consist of linear, lateral, vertical, and rotational work.

Core Strengthening & Stabilization

For volleyball players, strength training begins by targeting what is known as the power zone, which includes the abdomen, hips, and lower back.  As an athlete increases their ability to maintain a strong trunk through movement patterns, there is a greater potential for body strength and explosive power, improved body control, reaction time, balance, and a decreased risk of injury.
